CBN & CBG Isolate – Exploring The New Hemp Compounds With Bloom Hemp

Sponsored by our friends at Bloom Hemp

The history of hemp products goes all the way back to ancient China and Mesopotamia. It was being cultivated well over 10,000 years ago and was used to make items such as rope or cloth.

Since then, we have been able to discover a multitude of different uses for this amazing plant, thanks to the advancements in both science and research. In recent times, the popularity of hemp-based products has really skyrocketed.

Research is being done on the different compounds that are found inside a hemp plant and the numerous benefits that they can offer. The most notable ones among these are THC and CBD. The latter is being used in a variety of products, from food to lotions and even coffee. However, the spotlight now seems to be on two fairly new compounds, CBG and CBN.

Traditionally, extracting these compounds and creating an isolate was a time-consuming and expensive task which is why they were not as easily available. This is because they differ from CBD in a few different ways.

With time, farmers have been able to come up with hemp strains that carry higher concentrations of CBG and CBN. Currently, Bloom Hemp is one of the few brands to recognize the rise in popularity of these compounds.

The hemp industry is now gradually moving beyond CBD and it is only a matter of time before CBG and CBN become the next big compound.

What is An Isolate?

As the name already suggests, an isolate of a specific compound is the purest form of that particular compound and is often available as a white powder.

For example, in the case of CBD isolate, you have 99+% pure CBD which can be used in a number of different ways. It can be mixed with food or used to make your own edibles like gummy bears. You can also create your own CBD oil.

Since an isolate is the purest form of a compound, measurements become quite easy. One milligram of isolate will almost always translate to 1 mg of CBD.

Isolates are also odorless and tasteless which makes them quite versatile with a number of applications.

What is CBN?

Let’s talk about what CBN is and the process through which it is formed. One of the unique aspects of CBN is that its concentration will grow within the hemp plant as the plant ages.

This happens specifically when the plant is exposed to both heat and oxygen. The THC which is present inside degrades into CBN.

Unlike other compounds, however, CBN is not derived from CBG, something that we will discuss in a bit. Because of this reason, CBN was thought to be a waste byproduct and it wasn’t until a few years ago that researchers really started to realize the many benefits that it could offer.

CBD vs CBN

The key difference between CBN and CBD is that CBN is mildly psychoactive whereas CBD does not carry any psychoactive properties.

This is because CBN is derived from THC. However, similar to other cannabinoids, CBN works by interacting with the CB1 and CB2 receptors of our endocannabinoid system. This system is responsible for regulating many functions inside our bodies.

How is CBN Isolate prepared?

As mentioned, CBN is created from THC.

In nature, CBN is created when the hemp plant is exposed to oxygen and heat. The little THC that the hemp plant has will then begin to convert to CBN over time.

In a lab setting, however, we can mimic this process and convert the THC found in distillate to CBN.  We are then able to take that CBN oil and isolate the cannabinoid itself by removing all of the other cannabinoids, terpenes, and flavonoids. This results in a white powder that contains 99% pure CBN, known as CBN isolate.

What are the benefits of CBN Isolate?

While research is still undergoing, CBN is already showing a lot of promise. Since it is mildly psychoactive, it can help you relax and feel calmer.

The medicinal benefits of CBN are currently being tested in clinical trials and it has proven to be a very strong antimicrobial agent

What is CBG?

CBG is quite a special compound. The reason for this is that it can essentially be considered as the mother of all other cannabinoids.

The other cannabinoids can be synthesized from CBG and it is a precursor to all of them. For this reason, CBG can offer a number of benefits on its own and it is non-psychoactive which is something that is important for a lot of people whenever they are considering any hemp-based products.

CBD vs CBG

Since CBG is the precursor to other compounds, all of them with the exception of CBN is synthesized from it including CBD. They are both non-psychoactive and can be used in a number of different ways because of this.

How is CBG Isolate prepared?

The process for creating CBG is very similar to CBD isolate.

Originally, there used to be very little concentration of CBG within a hemp plant, sometimes as low as 1%. This meant that more biomass was needed to produce a certain quantity of this isolate.

As of the last couple of years, however, farmers have really honed in on developing high CBG strains. With these new strains, we are able to process the flower into distillate and then isolate the CBG all together in a way which is quite similar to how CBD is extracted.

What are the benefits of CBG Isolate?

Like CBN, research is also being done to understand the potential benefits CBG can offer. A number of studies have been carried out such as the 2008 study which found out that CBG might be beneficial for the treatment of MSRA because of its antibacterial properties.

Which One Should You Pick?

It all comes down to whichever compound works best for you and produces the effects you are looking for.

If you want you can experiment with both CBG and CBN in moderation and noting the effect that each one has on you. The serving amounts can be adjusted this way as well.

You should always consult a medical professional if you are unsure about trying a new supplement. Nothing on this article or website is medical advice.

Finding a Quality Supplier

Once you have decided on the compound that you are going to pick, it is important to find a quality supplier for it.

This can make a huge difference since a low-quality isolate can have lower quantities of a compound whereas a high-quality isolate will contain 99%.

Buying from a company such as Bloom Hemp will ensure that there is no compromise on quality. All of the products are put through rigorous testing and each process is transparent, making sure that the final product is both pure and stands up to the highest standards of quality.

We wish you luck on your hemp adventures!
